What Is Solar Energy?
from: Forsgrens
Today, you will see an increasing number of homes and buildings using solar panels to use as their main source of electricity. This is because solar energy is much cheaper than conventional energy and is much cleaner. Solar energy, as the name suggests, uses the sun as the source of the energy. Since sunlight is very abundant, it and very common, it requires no fuel to burn, like coal or gas and therefore much cleaner and cheaper.
However, not all areas of the planet can be used to install a solar panel. This is because sunlight in some areas is rare. This means that in order to maximize the efficiency of solar energy, you should first determine if your area has a lot of sunlight all year round.
Before you install a solar panel in your property, you should also know how it works and also the different uses for it.
Firstly, solar energy can be transformed for use elsewhere or it can be utilized directly. Here are uses for direct solar power:
• It can be used as an electricity source by letting the sunlight hit a photovoltaic cell.
• It can be used to generate light by letting it enter a fiber optic cable installed around a building.
• It can also be used in space where the sunlight will hit a solar sail causing the spacecraft to move.
In indirect solar power, it requires more than one transformation for it to be usable. Here are examples of its uses:
• Solar energy is indirectly used in hydroelectric dams and wind turbines.
• Ocean thermal energy production uses the thermal gradients that are present across ocean depths to generate power. These temperature differences are caused by the energy of the sun.
There are many more uses for the sun’s energy, and people are now harnessing it to power their homes and even developing a car that uses purely solar power to make it move.
Solar energy can even be used for heating. This works by being composed of solar thermal collectors, a fluid system to move the heat from its collector to its point of usage and a reservoir to stock the heat for later use. This can be used for heating swimming pools or provide heat for heaters. This is a great way to save electricity from your electric company by not using heaters powered by utility company electricity.
It is also used to provide electricity by using photovoltaic cells or solar cells. These are devices which collect the suns energy and convert it into electricity. Today, many homeowners are now installing solar cells in the roof of their house in order to minimize the cost of electric bills. It also provides cleaner source of power since it uses the suns energy to provide electricity. This means that you don’t need any fuel like coal or gas to produce electricity.
You may wonder how it will work if the weather is not cooperating or at night. Solar panels can work at night or at bad weather because of electricity storage systems. This system works much like a rechargeable battery where it stores electricity for backup if you need it at night or at days where the sun is covered by clouds.
Using solar energy can be very efficient if it is installed properly around your property. This means that it should be installed on where the sun will likely hit the solar cells in order to make it work more efficiently. Imagine cutting the cost of your electric bills in half or in some cases no electric bills from conventional electric companies at all.
