Disadvantages of Solar Power: It is not alarming!
from: Forsgrens
The sun is the center of the Solar System. It radiates solar energy being converted into a solar power beneficial to both living and non-living things. The sunlight is needed to dry clothes, to help the plants in the photosynthesis process and to give energy and oxygen to people. It is a powerful creation opening the gateway to new discoveries. The discovery of sunlight capability to generate power leads in the invention of solar powered vehicle and solar powered pumps.
Solar energy has a longer life span and it is available to all. The power generated from solar energy called solar power is clean without gasses harmful enough to cause pollution. It is environment friendly and only need little upgrading.
There are systems used in transforming the radiation of the sun into useful form of solar power. It can be either in the form of solar heating and photovoltaic. The energy from the sun can be used in three ways.
- Solar energy can be used in the form of solar cells. The photovoltaic cells or photoelectric cells directly convert the sunlight into the form of electricity. Solar panel with an area of one square meter can supply electricity to power a 100W light bulb if it gets enough amount of sunlight on sunny day. It can also provide electricity to satellites. Some calculators use solar cells for it to function.
- Solar energy is also used for solar power water heating. It is being used for heating the water along the glass panels of your roof. You could be able to save energy on fuel and electricity consumption. It is advisable to paint your water pipes black. It gets hotter when sunlight strikes centralizing your water heating system.
- Solar energy is also used as solar power furnaces. Large mirrors in arrays are used so that the solar energy can be concentrated into a compact space to produce temperatures that are very high. Scientific experiments use solar furnaces for their experiments achieving temperature high as 33,000 degrees Celsius.
With all the advantages stated, solar power has its disadvantages.
- The solar cells need enough sunlight for it to function properly. It is a disadvantage if you live in areas which have lesser sunlight.
- There is an often replacement of the power giving panels of the batteries.
- There are a lot of solar panels needed to get enough amount of energy to be used in producing electricity and heat. A larger space is required and it costs a lot.
- Solar energy has no environmental impact however there could be a problem regarding solar power installation and manufacturing. It can also cause health problems. The component of a solar power uses fossil fuels to produce the amount of energy in its installation. Emission produced by fossils may contribute in air pollution. The materials used endanger the worker’s health upon installing the solar power systems. Safety measures must be strictly followed to avoid direct contacts and inhalation of these harmful materials.
- Solar power plants needs larger areas so there is a problem regarding land conversion. Animals living in their sanctuaries might also be affected if ever the area of coverage is needed.
Solar power is always open to be discovered. The things that are invented today may undergo useful innovations in the future. People must learn how to appreciate the sun and be given proper education in its solar power benefits.
